Fashion Illustrator-Mustafa Soydan

Mustafa Soydan is a turkish fashion illustrator. He is based Istanbul based illustrator. His works are totally complicated. He expressed himself through art based on his past, his wishes for future and also daily pleasures.

Mustafa Soydan did gorgeous illustrations of zodiac exclusively for Trendland. This is one of the work .(above)
The picture above is a taurus signage.I know this because from what i read from articles in magazines and other resources, taurus are bulls. They have horns.i love how Mustafa Soydan illustrate his works that can link with fashion. The mix media techniques are extremely gorgeous. He's work are also elegant and graphic. The character easily takes on her sign with effortless ease.

Apart from that,I was taken aback by this picture because,i was not sure if it's a digital work or a painting.I find this interesting because The work seems like photography but at the same this it look like painting and also at the same time the work is like a digital graphic work.I am impressed with his work.

I will not hesitate in saying that this is an artwork,a good one.I love abstract thinking and creativity.I love things that is out of the box and also, something weird to any normal person but not to designers. The flowers covering the face of the lady is like the trait mark of dolce & gabbana. This is because from my observation, dolce & gabbana textile designs are mostly flowers and rich gold colours. As for this work,it shows simplicity and also a trait mark of Dolce& gabbana.

She did illustrations of beyonce's album cover.Apart from that, she did illustrations of dior and also Louis Vouilton.
Currently, Marcela lives and work in New York as an artist.

I love this illustration because the technique of her illustrations are interesting. The way she painted the hair of every single lady she painted. She use the 'sexy' look of expression. She definitely research on beyonce and probably see's her video's and pictures and made a good artwork from the research. The garments that were used by the ladies are sexy and it shows the trait mark of beyonce. For example, the expression, the poses, the types of clothes beyonce will wear and also the hairstyle.

The picture above is one of Marcela illustration of Dior.I love how she painted the lights, especially.I personal think that the lights will need to have more time to complete and perfect it as lights shines brights and it brightens the scenery at night. The lady is wearing a below ankle dress with a white high heeled shoes.I love how it is composed because the idea of casual is there
.It is casual yet perfect.

The picture above is a commercial illustration  of Gucci. It is also one of Marcela Gutierrez work especially how she uses different kind of expression on the models. The background colors are interesting and quite vibrant. The way she painted the reflection  glass at the escalator  is so realistic. Her work style are indeed realistic. The expression of the models, the garments, accessories are so realistic.Nevertheless,Marcela Guitierrez works are interesting and realistic.

Fashion Illustrators-Natalia Sanabria

Natalia Sanabria is an illustrator. She was born in San Jose, Costa Rica. What made her drew to illustrations was it all started in art school. When she was in an art school, she was inspired with the models from the magazines and then she fell in love with every drawing she did.She started polishing her techniques and learn more techniques in rendering drawings. She believed that drawing allowed her to reflect her personality and emotions. To her perspective response, she feels that  Costa Rica is a colorful country. That is where she got her inspirations from to create beauty. This explains her colorful works that she had produced. She uses different sort of materials, textures and colors.Even though Natalia considered herself as a perfectionist, she also likes to embraced random materials such as torn paper, glitter and watercolor. She worked for NYLON Mexico,Caprocho magazine and also Loulou Grenelle.

The illustration above is one of the work from Natalia Sanabria. This is one of the work for NYLON Mexico.I love how she uses her fashion sense and techniques to create an artwork. With her style of work, which most of the models skin tone are dull. The only contrast I see is the headband. The colors that were used were all in pastel colors. She seemed to use torn pattern papers for the headband too.The line of the headband is not as straight compared to the one that is hand drawn nor painted.Th
is evident that she uses the technique to do her work.

The picture above is the second picture I am impressed with.I  love how she uses different kind of medium to do her work. She uses watercolor, pencil and also collage in some parts of the illustration.Apart from that, this work of hers is extremely extraordinary. The work is based on fashion. She uses bright colors for the garments and also accessories. It gives a contrast between the body parts and others.Nevertheless, this work of hers is unique due to the creativity she did on the  hair.Covering the faces with hair is unique. She made this, probably because she wants the garments and accessories to stand out more than others.

This picture above is really kiddy kind of work and Natalia is also inspired by  barbie dolls.I see pattern paper that were pasted at the right hand of the illustration. Her work are more into collage. She uses water color, pencil, color pencils and also, pen to do this.I like how she mix media the work. The contrast of the eye of the right hand person is really interesting because the make up reminds me of  Japanese make up it also reminds me of the character of the hunger games Effie Trinket the escort of District 12.The make up is similar to the lady on the right but the make up here is really simple compared to Effie Trinket

.Nevertheless Natalia works are really unique and interesting as she uses different kind of mediums, techniques and also materials. Her inspirations are things that is around her.I am also amazed how she uses the smallest thing people thought could throw be in an artwork. Her techniques and ideas are exceptionally inspiring.

Fashion Illustrator-Laura Lain

Laura Lain is an artist and a fashion illustrator. She studied fashion design at University of Art Helsinki. She only focuses on fashion illustrations during his studies in University. After graduated and completed her studies. She worked full-time as a freelance illustrator and also teach fashion illustration at the university.

She did a work for H&M.This is one of the picture.(below)
This drawing is probably hand drawn.I like how it is drawn because, the proportion of the body is good. The model poses in that way to show there is bare back. The color is just black and white. The medium of the work is probably pencil, charcoal and and black pen. The most interesting part about is she rendered the face so that people will focus on the face but the garments and the hair. .I love the print s of the tights.Nevertheless,i love how she makes illustration simple yet beautiful.

This is one of her work.It is called GHOST.Apparently, few months ago,i went to watch this movie called 'MAMA'.Laura Lain's works reminds me of that ghost in the movie. Her works are mostly in black and white. The details are absolutely superb. This is because i can even see details on the sleeves. There's holes. The fabric might be a football jersey.I like how she interpret 'GHOST' to this. Some people believe that ghost are different from us,they don't have hands or legs and ghost have weird structure.I believe this is what she wants to show us,the weird, garments that are attached on the ears, the face of the lady and the silhouette of the lady.It looks really skinny. Therefore, this work is interesting and has a good interpretation  of 'GHOST'.

This is one of the work for GOZO.I find this work interesting because of the hair!!Laura lain might have been thinking using alphabet letters to create the artwork.Since her style is black and white and her style is follow with the flow of the hair,i think she create a good artwork. The hair is especially well done. The garment that the lady is wearing suits with the concept. Tying a long hair that shaped like a 'G'.The proportion of the lady is good.I love how she go with the flow of the hair.Although it may look simple,it needs alot of work on the hair.

What i've learnt from her work is that i have to learn to make things 'go with the flow' of an artwork.

Fashion Illustrator-Katherine Troman

Katherine Troman is a fashion illustrator. She lives in Birmingham. She is a graduate of the Arts University in Bournemouth. The picture above should be portrait or maybe not exactly her because she is an illustrator so she can change a little bit of her features in illustrations.I like how she colour her illustrations.

The picture above is called Jennifer Anxiety. This is her submission for talenthouse entry for Ladyhawke competition.i like the way Katherine plays with the technique in coloring the background. The proportion of the lady is good and her expression is in anxiety or in doubt of something. Her facial expression and gesture say so.So i guess this is a good and simple way of illustrating the lady in anxiety.

This illustration above is called "Amelia's compendium of Fashion illustration".I love the way this person does her illustrations. This is because the garment itself is interesting because it has alot of drapes and the colours that were use to express the snobbish women's expression can be seen. The sleeve colour that is used are yellow and pinkish red and black for outline.this gives a little bit of shine or reflection of light.

In my opinion, this illustrator uses soft colours to do her illustrators. Her work style is really lady-like and soft. This is why i love her work.

Fashion Illustrator-Carl Erickson

Carl Erickson was a American famous fashion illustrator and advertising artist. He's birth name is Carl Oscar August Erickson. He was born on 1891.He was born at Joliet, Illinois, USA.He studied at Academy of Fine.Although at his time he can only go to school two years, his artistic talents attracted the Marshall Field, lord and Thomas and other well known advertisement accounts in Chicago.
Not to give up the chances he got,in 1914 Eric moved to New York to continue his advertising illustrations. In 1916 Eric made his debut in  Vogue magazine.By 1917,he signed his signature at "Eric". In1925 he was a regular artist on the magazine.

He dominated the fashion illustrations field for more than thirty five years. He created  illustrations for French publications and drawing society portraits. He was a very hardworking man and serious in his work because he used his free time to practice on his skills in illustrations and for every work he did,he did a lot of research before producing a work.Eric became the pillar of the illustrations magazine. He worked with Rene Willaumez Bouet and then he worked with Rene Bouche. He was  known for his drawing of people in fashionable settings and would stress the importance of detail in his art.He continued to work for Vogue until late 1950s.The Brooklyn Museum held a retrospective of his drawings shortly after his death in 1959.

This is one of the work that he did on Coty Cosmetics.

Coty Cosmetics is a beauty industry. This picture is relating with beauty and it is feminist. There are flowers above the women.Apart from that, there are cosmetics all over. This drawing gives a little bit of story. What i observed was,the women without any color is the customer without wearing any make up.Probably the women wanted to wear a make so,the women with make up promote the product to her. Therefore, this advertisement is trying to conclude that the products from coty cosmetics is useful and productive.

This illustration advertisements is to promote the products from coty cosmetics. There are text promoting the products. This product is probably for winter time because the model is wearing garment that abstract and it look like a Christmas tree. Therefore,i think this picture is very interesting because it will definitely, promote the sales for coty cosmetics and Eric has done a very good job in illustrating.

In conclusion what i have learn from his illustrations is that we always need a purpose in doing our illustrations or advertisement.I will definitely need this property to help me do the fashion illustrations project doing magazine.I will definitely do what he does, convince customers, readers to buy our magazine and product.I will also definitely need a very good and strong research to make the magazine cover look convincing and fascinating.

Erte:Fashion Illustrator

Erte is one of the most notable fashion illustrators and costume designers and a master of the Art Deco style. He was born in Romain de Tirtoff in St.Petersburg,Russia on 23rd November 1892.He came from a an aristocratic musical family loyal to Tsar.Since he was very young,he was introduced to theater. His family had a permanent box in Maryinsky Theater and also had the Ballets Russes of the famed Diaghilev. In 1912,his family moved to Paris,France. He became a French citizen since then.He went to study at the Academie Julian and at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts.

In 1913,Erte was hired by Paul Poiret. This is where he decided to change his name to Erte.During this time he also worked for Gazette du Bon Ton.In 1913,he deisgned costumes fir a scene called “La Musee Cubiste in Paris music hall revue,Plus Ca Change.Etre worked for Harper;s Bazaar in New York. His work was published from 1916 to december 1936.By the Erte had gained reputation as the world's leading fashion illustrators.Erte style was influenced by the painting of the Pre-Raphaelites,and also by floral and Art Deco patterns and he might influenced by the books he saw in the library of his father which included Sixteenth century Persians and Indian miniatures which he acquired certain precious decorative motifs as well as love for details and for gold and silver.

Above is one of his work.
This illustration is called 'Symphony in Black'.The fashion illustration give me a an impression of a very elegant and high class style. The silhouette of the illustration gives a very feminine look. His fashion illustration is similar to those ancient Egyptian kind of artwork because of the 'hat' on her head. The colours that were used were really suitable. With the dog in the illustration,it also gives a sense of protection for the women because like people say 'Dogs are men best friend'.Since the women is high class and elite, the women need a sense of protection.

What I feel about the picture above is that I was impressed by the way the women is dressed. The garment that the women is wearing is a sari(an indian traditional costume)like I said earlier his style was influenced by the books from his father's library and one of the style that was taken from the images of the books are indian miniatures. The handy fan that she is holding,is like a peacock feathers. Nevertheless,it is clear now that he's style was influenced by indian miniatures.

This is one of his works that were published n Harper's Bazaar. This illustrations of Erte gives me an impression of calm and relax because the colours that were used and the way the women is women is wearing gives an impression of peace.

During world war 2 1930's and 1940's he was a primarily involved in theatre in Paris,London and elsewhere. His designs were acquired by opera, ballet, drama, music hall companies. When he was 73 years old, he unveiled thousands of perfectly preserved illustrations they caused a resurgence of Art Deco in the late 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s.On April 21, 1990, at the age of ninety-seven, Erté died in France.

What I have learned or want to pick up from his illustrations Is that, inspirations can be found in many ways it's either you know how to combine the inspiration to your style.
